Friends in Your Corner

Friends

I believe every photographer needs to have friends in the same industry in their corner. You need those friends you can share the joys and struggles of the job with and they get it, like really get it! From advice on communication with clients to showcasing your latest print products to how to get the attention of toddlers for photos, we all can all understand each other. We get it!

It’s also fun to travel to a new or different location for a change of pace and scenery. Diane and I made a trip to Washington, D.C. this winter to visit Jessica just as the first spring blossoms were getting ready to open. We talked, we shared heart to heart and we explored. The time was good for the soul!

Jessica is an incredible hostess and always knows the best places to take her friends when they visit DC. She welcomed us into her home with warm banana bread and coffees. Then we headed out for headshots of each other, more good food and walked around looking at beautiful architecture. Some of these photos were taken by me. Others by either Jessica of Jessica Burdge Photography or Diane of Di Images. However all of them were edited by yours truly.

I’m so thankful for these friends and hope we can do something like this again in the near future! I know I need friends in my corner on a regular basis. But these two certainly aren’t the only ones in my corner of the business world. I’m so, SO thankful to have others who speak into my life as well!

One big lesson I’ve learned from Jessica is that if you are lonely, put yourself out there and create the friendships you long to have. Reach out to someone in the same industry. Ask them to grab coffee and chat about business. Who knows, it may be the start of a beautiful friendship!
